Divine Service in Crathie Parish Church - 4

Once again we are invited to join with the congregation in Crathie Parish Church for Divine Service. We follow the Order of Service from a Sunday at the beginning of August.

Today, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh (who are staying at Balmoral Castle) will be joining the congregation for Divine Service at 11.30 am. This is the private side door they will use to enter the church.

AND LORD’S PRAYER (‘debts’)

THOUGHT FOR ALL AGES

with Dr Alan Gibb

THOSE WHO WAIT ON THE LORD
shall renew their strength;
they shall rise up on wings as eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint;
help us, Lord; help us, Lord; on your way.

THOSE WHO SERVE THE SUFFERING WORLD ...

THOSE WHO DIE ON THE MARCH ...

THOSE WHO LIVE THE RISEN LIFE ...

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

Holy and merciful God, today in your presence we confess our sinfulness, our shortcomings, and our offenses against you. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from your ways, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting your love. Have mercy on us, O Lord, for we are ashamed and sorry for all we have done to displease you. Forgive our sins, and help us to live in your light, and walk in your ways, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Saviour. AMEN.

(A short silence will be kept)

ORGAN PRELUDE

OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: 2 Psalm 145:1-4, 10-18

I will extol thee, my God, O king;
and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

Every day will I bless thee;
and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
his greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall praise thy works to another,
and shall declare thy mighty acts.

All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD;
and thy saints shall bless thee.

They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.

Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

The LORD upholdeth all that fall,
and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

The eyes of all wait upon thee;
and thou givest them their meat in due season.

Thou openest thine hand,
and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

The LORD is righteous in all his ways,
and holy in all his works.

The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him,
to all that call upon him in truth.

NEW TESTAMENT LESSON: Ephesians 3:14-21

14For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, 17and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. 18I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

OFFERING

PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION

Hymn 519 Love divine, all loves excelling

Love Divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of heaven, to earth come down,
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesu, thou art all compassion,
Pure unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation,
Enter every trembling heart.

Come, almighty to deliver,
Let us all thy grace receive;
Suddenly return, and never,
Never more thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve thee as thy hosts above,
Pray, and praise thee, without ceasing,
Glory in thy perfect love.

Finish then thy new creation
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation,
Perfectly restored in thee,
Changed from glory into glory,
Till in heaven we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise!
