Stirling Castle - 27

The Stirling Heads were commissioned by James V in about 1540 to adorn the ceiling of the King's Inner Hall.



The idea was that he could sit on his chair of estate with his credentials displayed on the ceiling above him. James may have never seen his scheme completed before his death in 1542.



They are truly beautiful!
