Here is lovely modern carving in oak depicting the love of the King for the Queen.
The coronation of Mary Queen of Scots took place at Stirling Castle in September 1543. The ceremony took place in the old Chapel Royal which no longer stands. Cardinal Beaton, then Archbishop of St Andrews, officiated; the crown was held by the Earl of Arran, who at that time was regent. Mary is said to have wailed throughout.
