Fort George - 1

Fort George is one of the most outstanding fortifications in Europe. It is located about 10 miles North East of Inverness.

It was built in the wake of the 1745-6 Jacobite Rising (Battle of Culloden) as part of a concerted effort by George II's government to ensure that the Highland clans would never again rise in support of the exiled Stuart dynasty.
