The Joy of the Resurrection - 20

Early August 2008...

... and from the road side things look almost finished. However there remains much work to be done inside before Bishop Peter solemnly Dedicates the new building on 1 November 2008. The outside of the sanctuary is now clearly visible.

How many people does the church hold?

That is the capacity of my parish church. We have about 800 church goers in the parish.

We have just one Mass on a Sunday (9.30 am) - with about 150 people present - so the church is about 75% full. We have two other Masses each week (Wednesday morning and Thursday evening), but numbers are much lower.

We have a vigil Mass on Saturday night, two Masses on Sunday day and a Mass on Sunday evening. We have Mass every day with about 60-80 regulars, more in Lent. We used to have two priests but with the priest shortage we now have only one priest. Unfortunately the parish website doesn't have a picture of the church which is a rather lovely building of bluestone. The stained glass windows are lovely; you can see a picture of St John the Evangelist, patron saint of the parish, the one over the choir loft at this website.

Your parish seems a very lively one. When I was an Anglican living in Belfast in the 1980's, I used to attend a lovely church dedicated to St John the Evangelist.

There is also an Anglican church of St John just a few minutes away. It leads to much confusion at weddings and funerals. lol

Their website, and the church, is lovely. You will notice that one of their windows is of St Cecila. When I get up the courage I will ask the pp to dress our website up a bit.
