The Word of the Lord - 22

In the beginning was the Word:
the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things came to be,
not one thing had its being but through him.
All that came to be had life in him
and that life was the light of men,
a light that shines in the dark,
a light that darkness could not overpower.

A man came, sent by God.
His name was John.
He came as a witness,
as a witness to speak for the light,
so that everyone might believe through him.
He was not the light,
only a witness to speak for the light.

The Word was the true light
that elightens all men;
and he was coming into the world.
He was in the world
that had its being through him,
and the world did not know him.
He came to his own domain
and his own people did not accept him.
But to all who did accept him
he gave power to become children of God,
to all who believe in the name of him
who was born not out of human stock
or urge of the flesh
or will of man
but of God himself.

The Word was made flesh,
he lived among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory that is his as the only Son of the Father,
full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-14)

O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him,
Born the King of Angels:
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

God of God,
Light of Light,
Lo! he abhors not the Virgin's womb;
Very God,
Begotten not created:
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

Sing, choirs of Angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above,
Glory to God
In the highest:
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born this happy morning,
Jesu, to thee be glory given;
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing:
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

Happy Christmas!

PS I am going to take a brief break from blogging - so my next post will be on Sunday 30 December - when I shall start a new mini-series entitled 'Christmas Carols'.

My favourite gospel passage Peter which I shall hear at 12 noon Mass at Purley. We had it at midnight last night with a powerful sermon from Teresa Munro. Have a lovely day!

Thank you. Christmas Day was busy! Deacon at Vigil Mass at Westminster Cathedral; Deacon at Midnight Mass at Ham; Deacon at Midday Mass at Westminster Cathedral - then after an excellent lunch in the Choir School attended Solemn Vespers and Benediction. Today has been much more relaxed - the turkey is roasting in the oven as I type this - it smells delicious! Guess you must be busy with the 'feeding of the 5,000!'
