Advent Hymns - 8

Today we focus on the Word of God in the Old Testament.

These are the days of Elijah,
Declaring the word of the Lord:
And these are the days of Your servant Moses,
Righteousness being restored.
And though these are days of great trial,
Of famine and darkness and sword,
Still, we are the voice in the desert crying
'Prepare ye the way of the Lord!'

Behold He comes riding on the clouds,
Shining like the sun at the trumpet call;
Lift your voice, it's the year of jubilee,
And out of Zion's hill salvation comes.

These are the days of Ezekiel,
The dry bones becoming as flesh;
And these are the days of Your servant David,
Rebuilding a temple of praise.
These are the days of the harvest,
The fields are as white in Your world,
And we are the labourers in Your vineyard,
Declaring the word of the Lord!

Behold He comes riding on the clouds,
Shining like the sun at the trumpet call;
Lift your voice, it's the year of jubilee,
And out of Zion's hill salvation comes.

I was suprised (don't know why) to see such a moderm hymn on your blog page. Fortunately you were not in ear distance while I sang it at my computer! lol

It's a really good hymn! I have an open mind on hymns - many modern hymns are 'rubbish' and will probably have been forgotten about in 10 years time - but that has always been the case. Many hymns written in the 18th and 19th centuries were 'rubbish' - and have long since disappeared. It is the good hymns which have survived the test of time. The best of our modern hymns will probably be sung for many centuries to come- that is if the Second-Coming doesn't come first! At a typical Sunday Sung Mass, I like to have three traditional hymns and one modern.
