God save our gracious Queen!

Today we celebrate the 55th Anniversary of the Accession of Queen Elizabeth II. She became our Queen following the death of her father on 6 February 1952. I was not born until 1953, and so feel that she has been our Queen for a long time. I think she is a wonderful Queen, and so happily pray today:
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save The Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save The Queen!

Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour,
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save The Queen!

On her 21st birthday in 1947, Elizabeth solemnly declared "... that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great Commonwealth family to which we all belong."

For over half a century, Her Majesty has never wavered from that commitment. She lives with deep faith in Christ as the true King of kings -- if only all leaders so conducted themselves! Fittingly her name, Elizabeth means "God is my oath" in Hebrew. Indeed He is!

Yes, let us pray for this devoted and selfless Christian servant-- prayers of thanksgiving as well as petition for her health and happiness. God save the Queen!
